Plants a camel shouldn't eat?
My camel loves Oak tree leaves and dog fennel. I have heard too much Oak cna be toxic and we have chinese tallow trees that I know are toxic to some species. Does anyone know of any trees or plants a camel should steer clear from? I haven't had any problems with him eating oak leaves and I haven't allowed him near chinese tallow trees.
Thank you Jennifer Koehler |

My camels also loved Oak leaves and I was also hesitant about them eating it. They had limited access and it never seemed to do them any harm in small amounts, although the toxins may be cumulative I am not sure. We don't have an Oak tree anymore so I don't have that to worry about now. Being in Australia the plants that are toxic here will probably not be useful to you.
My partner wants to create a list of good fodder trees for our business (we have a bush regeneration / environmental restoration business with a plant nursery) so we can grow plants that will be useful for farmers (and also feed our camels). When he does I will post the list. |
