Cameleer

The Diwali festival in India was fantastic. I spent the day in a small village outside of Bikaner where the Raika (Camel breeders) came riding in on their camels from all over Rajasthan to meet and be with their friends. I was the only outsider there and was treated in the usual way, FANTASTICALLY.
They were riding around on the backs of their camels doing tricks like standing up and jumping off. The very young and old alike were playing on the camels too. A small 5 year boy was very cute as he sat on a camel that was laying down, looked like he was imagining riding this beast across the vast Thar Desert like his farther. Then they got a small fire going and branded a few of the camels. Gave all of the camels salt. Started milking some camels and give me a large hot glass of camel milk.
I was then taken to the village elder’s house and a few other houses where we had sweet as neighbors came from all over vesting in small groups going from house to house.
I would have to say Diwali was up there on my top 10 list!
