Do Camel's toenails ever have to be rasped? I know they have to rasp Elephants' toenails because they can grow out and crooked sometimes, and I was just wondering if Camels need it, too.

Who camels sufficient moved does not need to cut toenails. Important is a hard stony ground in the habitat. I am Camelbreeder since 1996 and i was never forced to raspe my Camels toenails.

You don’t rasped them, you use nippers like what are used for trimming horses hoofs.
Gobi is on sandy ground and is quite active so I don’t need to trim his toenails, but I have trimmed the toenails of a friends camel, and at the camel training clinics I have seen a few done.

Neat video, Roger! Isaac is gorgeous! Thanks for the link! You might be interested in getting some hoof nippers that are Miniature Horse sized. The handles are shorter, and they don't open as wide as the bigger hoof nippers do. My farrier has a pair that he uses on my Mini, and he has an easier time using them one-handed. :)

Yes, He’s a very nice white Bactrian camel. I was back over there a few weeks ago to trim his toenails again, they were curled under pretty good this time. I brought some of those short nippers with me but switched back to the big ones. I think they make a size in-between that would be ideal.
