I'm in the Southwest and I was wondering if I have to put up a shelter for a camel. Around here most people don't have shelters for their horses, since the sun is out about 350 days out of the year, I was wondering if this were the same for camels? Would it be okay for me to go ahead and get one without a shelter and maybe build one in the near future? Or is it an absolute must have?

given a choice our camels usually seek shelter from the rain...it would be nice to give them that option...erica

I will build a shelter for sure in the next few months, but I wanted to make sure he would be okay without one for a bit.

im in Australia and in the Hottest part of the day mine lay in direct sunlight in a little sand patch. And sometimes roll around on there back.lol it is as if they enjoy it.
But when the rain comes they dont like it that much putting there heads down although i havnt seen them seek shelter,i think it might be an idea to put a bit of a shelter up just for an option. But i think your camel will be fine until you have it completed it.Hope it works out for you.:)

Mine will seek shelter during heavy rain and on cold frosty nights. They seem to love the heat though. As with Webby's, mine also love lying in a dirt patch in the heat of the day and rolling around, legs everywhere. A real spectacle to watch. :D
Given that Tessa came from the Simpson Desert (mid-north Australia) I'm guessing she's used to not much shelter.

Do Bactrians and Droms vary in this regard? Maybe that makes a difference to requirements?
