Scott,
How many camels do you actually own? And how many are males (gelded or bulls) and females. Do you breed them, or just train. You do give rides though right....anything else?

if you can do it with a camel legally in the U S we are game for it!!!!!!!!!!!
If its not immoral to do it with a camel we are game for it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We go under the assumption "What one man can do! another CAN DO!!!!!
(this last ones been a little ruff on us from time to time!! YE ole learning curve!!) so if i see it done and wont to do it I start learning how and go at it(learning curve)! Common Sense and a little reason should be applicable in most cases! as for how many camels i try to reinvest in my camels every year i allocate some of my camel money to buying another camel "female, baby maker" hopefully!!!! or a gelding if he is a bargain! and for the moment a half dozen of each is all i got!!!:rofl!!! this is my 12 or 13Th year working with camels even though I'm not that old (in camel year of service) I have high mileage! hope to see you at the clinic April15,16,17 2010 Cartersville,GA www.camelsaddlesforsale.com to everyone that has not signed up on the email of www.camelsaddlesforsale.com dont forget to sign up and confirm it on your email!!!! i had 50 unconfirmed emails.......those wont go thru so please confirm! thanks scott

Do you work for Gumby Micheale or did he train you? How long have you trained camels? Just curious. That boy with the bactrin, why would he own it if he didn't know what to do with it? Sounds like he didn't need it. Young people these days.

Ive had camels 12 or 13 years now and Ive known Gumby and Christi michaels now 4 nearly 5 years! AS for working for gumby NO I HAVE NOT! he is my friend! i buy from him and he buys from me and we treat each other as good as we can! when i go up to see him he and i "go play camel " as my wife says so her and Christi can have a break from US!!! i work for free when i go there because its fun! when he comes by here we do the same whether it is catching his neighbors cow in the middle of a field, breaking a camel to ride advertising his farm or mine things friends do! did he train me ??? i think we train each other he uses my strong suits and "picks my brain" and i take from him!!!! and we both give freely as neither one of us are intimidated by one another! i hope this put the matter to rest! as for the boy with the bactrin you gotta start some where and that's as good a place as any (if ya got the money). i got my first camel in Killen Alabama and did not know squat a bout a camel!!! he is the big gelding (Sammy) in a lot of videos on you tube and on this forum! if some one as dense as me can do it, anybody can do it! "ye old learning CURVE" IT can be exciting !!!!!!!!!!!!! best regards :wave thanks for posting Scott
this is a video of the last time i was at Gumbys! at this point im trying to video this train reck for everyone

Who is the boy with the Bactrian? The boy is me, 36 year old Jeff Gray from Hartwell, GA. I’ve been around exotics since I was 9 years old because of my father. He raised follow deer, monkeys, ostrich, emu, rhea, porcupines, llamas, & buffalo all when the market was good. His generation did a good job keeping the ups and downs of the exotic market going. Now I’m walking in the footsteps of my father and into the next generation of animal breeders/handlers/educators, etc. With animals in hand and everyone asking us to bring them to events. In 2004 me and my wife started Sam’s Path Petting Zoo, www.samspathpettingzoo.com, birthday parties, educational programs, & live nativities. I bought my first camel on February 14, 1994 from Henry Hampton, Lazy 5 Ranch in NC. and I bought our second camel in 1997. Now we have 11 camels and that is 16 years of camel experience. Now I know after 16 years I don’t know every thing about camels, but who does? Everyone has their own way of learning and training their camels. I have three ride camels that I trained myself in my own way, might not be the right way to some people, but hey they ride and they do a damn good job. I never really was into the breeding of camels until 2005, had my females and a year ago I bought my not so crazy, but I still have to watch him bull. I like doing the petting zoo, but the nativities are my favorite. In 2004 we did 6 nativities, growing and growing and in 2009 from Nov. 1 - Jan. 2 we did 123 nativities in four states (yes 123, believe it or not). I’m sure there are camel folks out there that do more than that, but that is pretty good for us. We had 10 people, 4 trucks and trailers/with drop offs, and 10 of the camels minus the bull working for there food. I love every minute of it. Story about the Bactrian. In 2006, I went to a sale and this big Bactrian came through the ring with owner leading him in and just standing there. I won the bid at $2400, now we all know that two humpers don’t go for $2400 unless something is wrong with them. I said to myself this dude might be mean (which he turned out to be), but I can still make a profit off this camel. Never meet Scott before, but I knew he lived near me and asked him to bring the camel to his house where I would pick him up. Of all the times I go to a sale this one time I didn’t take a trailer. Sold him before I got home with a profit of $900 pretty good for just loading him in a trailer. Sorry to bore you guys with my story. Had to explain who the boy with the Bactrian is. Hope you like our video.

well how are the girls doing they being good mommas!!!!!!!!!!!! how many cows you got now 4 or 5 i cant remember ("CRS") i just bought a nice cow (camel) they say will not raise her calf! the first one she rejected (not sure how hard they tried)and they never took the chance with the other two ( i sold them i know she had them ) but I'm going to try and let her raise the next one! (i own rope and I'm not afraid to use them) I'm going to see if we can get the calf hooked up and nursing, a lot of stuff will reject the first born and really just don't know how or why they need to take care of the baby! i had a cow (Bovine) one time that would kick her baby and you like a football (10 to 15 foot through the air) CRAZZY she went to work for McDonald's in the packaging department i think that's where she RETIRED AT:devil1

OMG, they are ALL being GREAT Moms!!! I've got three Moms nursing babies right now. And one cow pretty pregnant. I had to do a little "convincing" the last one to let the baby nurse in the beginning, cause it was her first, but that wasn't too hard after I made up MY mind she was gonna do it!!;):p;).

Nice article. Where are all of these paint camels now?

Jurgan still has a breeding population in TX. and as he told me "you wouldn't think much of mine (camels) because i sold all the real flashy ones"! he still has all the genetics for the paints he just sold off the prettiest witch is smart $$$$$ and kept a lot of the plainer ones as breeding stock! i saw a pic of one of his new females babies (2010) black and white as piano keys$$$$$$$! i think the nicest Ive seen to date!!!! my bull has a white face and white on his legs and rump and is here at the farm! last spring at lollies my wife made me stop bidding on a paint bull @ 12,000 and he sold for 18,500! HOLY SMOKE BATMAN!!!! that was crazzy and a friend of mine bought two paint females (at Lollies) bottle babies 8,000 each and took them both ( they were nearly half off the farm price at Jurgens farm in TX.) but he let them sell witch surprised every one including me!!!!!! Gumby Micheal's Tn. has a bull (Buckwheat my bulls daddy) Jason Greer Exotics Tn. has a bull (name unknown) Smooth Rose Mo.(jigsaw???) Tri lakes Exotics TX (name un known) carl mogelson natural bridge Zoo va. and the guy in FLA that bought the paint at lollies!!! and there are a few more out there (some are NON BREEDERS careful) and some are NOT THROWING COLOR on brown cows CALVES!!! I have three half breeds myself that i intend to breed back to paints to get more color hopefully !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Time WILL tell!!! S.

Had a wonderful time at the clinic. Scott and crew are masters at understanding animal behavior and how to manage it, yet humble enough to keep learning. Their sensible straightforward approach is highly effective, with minimal stress on the animals and the trainers. No gimics like clickers, no camel kissing, just good common sense training techniques that work, while being respectful of the nature of the animal and still keeping his own self respect intact. Very well done.

Patrick I couldn't agree with you more! Scott and his crew did an amazing job with Humphrey! I have to admit that I had my doubt if he could be trained in 3 days of camp but Scott made a believer out of me! I will most definitely be a returning customer next year when it comes time to break hime to ride. Scott go ahead and put me on your calander, I'll be there. I am really not sure if I brought home the right camel, LOL he is so different. He has a whole different respect for me now. I can honestly say I truly feel that Scott and his crew saved my life. Humphrey was begining to get so out of control that one of us was gonna get hurt and I'm pretty sure it was gonna be me! Scott, I can't thank you enough! :clap

Patrick
04-21-2010, 07:06 AM
I was wondering how he was doing. As Scott mentioned, he was concerned that Humphrey would try to regress a bit once he was back in familiar territory. I don't know if you heard, but I noticed a huge difference in him at the clinic when you were leading him around, after Scott and the guys had their way with him. In the beginning he was crowding you, too close to your head for my liking, going in for the kissy stuff and acting dominant. Afterward he wasn't, when I saw you leading him around, and he kept more of a healthy distance between you.

After working with camels and seeing how quickly they respond to basic training methods, why would anyone ever want a horse?

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and the encouragement! i think my ole gelding was the biggest PILL in the bunch and he new better!!! we started off the clinic doing some riding i only had five of my camels saddled and around 20 folks there the first day so to space the riders out so no one was waiting, we just sent everyone to KNOT SCHOOL first, SHeepshanks, bowlines, half hitches and clove hitches!! it was funny to watch and i have some great footage of Donna trying to cheat in class, everyone were great sports and fun was had by all!!!! ya had to tie your knots have them inspected then ride, this made every one tighten up a little!!!! HATCHET KNOTS ARE UNEXCEPTABLE!!!!! We trimmed some toenails on one camel , Then rode an nine year old cow that barley lead when she got there threw a couple of other camels down on there side, got three to kushing pretty well! taught every one how to tie a diamond hitch pack not on a pack camel then drive a couple of camels for a while and go over harness! we all had some great fellowship good food, and good camels to work with, and made some new friends!!!all in all it was another great day on the farm !!!! all kidding aside i think we all left happy except for Jeff greys now gelded X-bull! an i would say he will be happy as soon as the swelling goes down!!!! thanks once again to all for your support at camel camp 2010 at Pettit Creek Farms and www.camelsaddlesforsale.com till we meet again THank you, Scott and crew
