Hi there,
Blood testing to check hormone levels. Ultra sounds can also be done, similar to testing a brood mare. Ask your vet he would have the best advice. No pee-sticks needed....:)

Try grabbing the back of her neck as if a camel male camel where biting down on her, if her tail goes up then most likely she is pregnant. Also if it's much harder to get her to kush, that's a good sign that she is pregnant. It's as if a male camel where trying to make her lay down when she’s already pregnant, she won’t want to.

Hi,
an easy method to check if your camel is pregnant is that your vet does a rectal palpation on your female to feel if the uteru is gravid.
Downside: she has to be restrained. You can either put her in a chute or you let her cush and tie her down, or he just gives her a bit of acepromazine to let her be more relaxed.
Good: fast and cheap method!
The other possibility is to check her blood progesterone level.
Downside: you need some blood and sometimes they can have elevated progesterone levels due to other reasons such as a cystic ovary, but I personally think it gives you at least a hint.
Good: if it is elevated the likelyhood for pregnancy is quite high.
Ultrasound is great, in early gestation a rectal ultrasound can be performed and in late a transabdominal one. However in midgestation it can be quite tricky to find the fetus through transabdominal ultrasound and just because your vet does not see one, does not ultimatley mean that there is none.
Downside: You need to find a vet who has an ultrasound machine.
Good: invasive method
Last but not least the good old way to test her is the tail raise when approached by a male. This very good method was already mentioned.
Hope I could help

At what age do they start "showing" does anyone know? I'm sure it will be slightly different between droms and Bacs?

The most reliable sign is the "tail up" by the female when approached by a person. The sign is obviously much clear if it is a male camel is approaching or a total human stranger.
The sign is visible 2-3 weeks after a succesfull mating and it disappear in afew hours in case of abortion. This sign is shown also by females with reproductive pathologies but I do not think you need to worry such animals are quite rear.. at least in Africa.
