I have been spending some time a farm that has a bull camel. (I wrote about him in the Training thread.) The vet, whole treats a variety of large animals including camelids, said that he was too fat so his owner decreased his feed. He lost a healthy amount of food, but then he went into rut and went off of his food and lost too much. I believe that they increased his grain when he lost too much weight, but it could have been that he started to eat normally again when he came out of rut. Anyway, he gained a healthy amount of weight back and has been maintaining it. Here is the question... When he lost too much weight his first hump fell over to one side, which we were told was normal with a weight loss since fat is stored in the hump, but when he gained the weight back to a healthy level it never straightened again. Any ideas?

One of our camels has a one sided hump. It has become a little more even since she has gained weight however, it is still noticeable. If it would be healthy you could try to get the camel to gain a little more weight.

We don't worry about it as it doesn't affect her and we don't ride her.
