Halter for upcoming birthday

My neighbor has a six month old baby camel and for his first birthday i wanted to make a very ornate halter that is functional and attractive. The camel is currently in a nylon halter and i was wondering if the base halter for my creation should be kept as a nylon halter or should i get a soft bosal??

I don't have a camel (yet) although I would think for that age since the camel will likely outgrow the halter before it's old enough to be ridden, I would stick with a nylon halter as the base --- or use paracord which you can buy in many different colors.
