Hello everyone. I hope I placed this in the right part of the forum. I'm new to the board and have no camels or their relations and no current inclinations on acquiring any (not enough property and no husbandry training). I'm really brought here by a question in all honesty.

I've always been fascinated by hybrids, particularly fertile hybrids. No particular reason, just something I have carried over from my youth after seeing photos of a Zorse as well as owning a wolf/dog mix during most of my childhood (a rescue). Anyhow, I learned of fertile bactrian x dromedary hybrids sometime ago and have read that they are back fertile and able to cross with either parent species and are often allowed to for various reasons. Now, my question is:

Are the F1 hybrids or descendants also fertile within their own group of hybrids? That is to say can two F1's be bred together and produce viable offspring? Can F1's mate with F2's and so on?

Do these offspring (if any) retain hybrid vigor of their parents and if not, do they have any health issues?

I've looked around online but only information I've encountered dealt with the backbreeding genetics. As such, I'm assuming they can't be bred together as no information seems to occur about it but it's just one of those itching questions that's been hanging around in my thoughts like a buzzing gnat.

Thank you for your patience. :D

Sorry I cannot help you - I checked my sources and only came up with the same information that you posted.

Are you on the knot forum? Today I posted there about possibly purchasing a camel in January and so I was wondering by your name whether you post on that site too.

Knot forum? No, I'm not familiar with it. Sorry about the name, its an old moniker I used a long time ago on another unrelated board and thought to reuse it here. Simply a play on words, nothing more. A frayed knot, meaning my sanity about to come undone as well as the secondary phonetic(?) meaning. ;)

Is the knot forum about camels as well?

No - it's about fancy and decorative knots - like turks heads, pineapple knots, etc.
