Camels are very hard on fences, they have a habit of putting their necks over a fence and pushing it down with their chest. On tall fences they will jump up on it, neck over it, chest pushing on it and their front feet off the ground as they push into it with their back feet. So as you can see this is very hard on fences and most horse types don’t hold up well.
For keeping camels in small areas I would recommend using the 6 foot tall heavy duty horse pipe panels.
For large areas I have seen people use high tensile electric fence that has worked quite well.
For more information about this type of fencing check out Kencove fence supplies, they have all the information and equipment you need to put up a high tensile electric fence. Plan on spending some time checking out their site, there’s all kinds of good information there showing what types of fencing to use and how to install it. I would recommend calling them, they are very helpful! Here’s their site: http://www.kencove.com/

We recommend the Power fence from Gallagher. http://www.gallagher.co.nz
Use never Barbed wire! Its a crime! As long the animals can find enough food on the ground there stay peacefull. My Power fence is alltime off . Only from time to time (4 time a year) i have to show them that are limits to respect. But my animals in more then 15 years had never escaped!

When it comes to electric fencing products please consider this.
Single strand wire electrical fencing has been used successfully for many
years by countless animal owners including myself however I will never
use "single strand wire" again after receiving a call from a friend of mine
who had a camel along with a few other animals contained on approximately 2 acres for grazing, the animals became playful and ended up going through the wire fence line, sadly, the camel ended up with the wire around its pastern (ankle) area which basically amputated its foot leading to the camel having to be put down.
I have found an alternative electrical fencing product which I feel comfortable using and have had no problems with. “Poly-web-tape” or “Tape” is what mine is called it comes in widths from ˝ inch to 2 inches wide (that I have seen) and it has several small wires woven in the
poly-webbing or tape which I believe is safer to use than the single strand wire. I also purchased a “Solar Charger” so there is no need for an electrical outlet. I purchased my Poly-tape from http://www.horseguardfence.com
And purchased the charger from http://www.fencemasteramerica.com

My pastures are all fenced with goat fencing (3 inch squares) and a high tensile electric wire runs only along the top.
Keeps Boris in & stray dogs out!
