HI
I have a sick camel - please could anyone give me advice or the details of a vet I could email and call preferably in Europe...

She's been quiet for 2 days, thought it was the weather, but now she has really swollen front ankles - does anyone have any thoughts, ideas or advice for me on this please???? She has no apparent injury and has not changed diet.

I look forward to hearing from you

About the best person that I know for emailing questions like this to is a member here that goes by Austcamel
You can find him on the member’s page.
Try to have all of the info that you can gather, like does he have a high fever, is the swelling in his legs hot and what ever else you can think of.

Thanks - have sent him an email
This morning, she's a lot better, inicidently, yesterday, I also noticed a lump on her abdomen, about the diameter of a coffee cup and raised up about the height of my finger - I'm wondering if Alice had been bitten by something and this was a reaction to the bite...
The lump has gone this morning and her feet are not BETTER, but getting back to normal. I'll keep you all posted on her progress here!
Thanks Camel Forum members for all your advice and support

I spoke too quickly, my camels ankles have again this evening swollen up and I've also not seen her chewing the cud today - EEK - too many warning signs, please does anyone have any advice, has anyone here had similar problems?

Here is a good camel vets name, number and email; Charmain Wright, DVM

I hope this info is still up to date. Is your camel eating at all? If she is off her feed, then that's the reason she has no cud to chew. I've had a couple of my female camels get swollen ankles before, nothing ever came of it though. They just went down on their own. I never did know what it was from.

camelsinfrance did you ever find out what was wrong?

GOSH that seems like ages ago!
Yes - it seems that it was a reaction to a rat bite, we gave anti inflamatory for 3 days and she recovered and is now fine thanks!
Phil Gee was a star, emailed me via a satelite system, happened to be with the chief Vet from Adelaide Zoo - trapping and tagging feral camels! WHAT LUCK!!!

I hope your camel is doing better. Charmaine Wright is really good at taking calls about camels. Being the newbee to the bunch---I am glad she lives 30 minutes from here. She is a good willing resource to people who have camels!

Can anyone supply a name of a good vet to confer with our local vet about whipworms in bactrain camels. We are having trouble getting rid of them in our 3 yr. old male.
