The Great Selenium theme continues...
All ideas are GREATLY appreciated!
My four girls DON'T take treats! When I say they don't take them , they seriously WON'T take them, I only have 1 camel who eats carrots, and another who will eat Jam on toast, finally 1 drinks champagne... I have tried a number of times to give them various types of treats...
Apples, Pureed apples, Pears, Bread, Sugar lumps, a mixture of everything... but all to no avail! I now have liquid Selenium... but HOW am I going to get it down them when they won't eat treats!!!
Please if anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it! I have thought of a horse syringe filled with apple sauce, but I'm short, and when they throw their heads back it's hard to administer!!! I'd also like it to be as pleasureable experience for them as possible!
My thanks to you all in advance!!

Try oatmeal. I have used it on my bull who is very picky about his medication taking and he gobbles it up. You could mix it in some sweet feed and feed it out.

@Zoocamel: Oatmeal could be difficulte to buy here in South of France and Europe as well.
@ Camelsinfrance: We propose You an European Solution: First of all try to ask your local Veterinarian. That would be the most effectfull and probably easyest and cheapest way to resolve your Problem. Otherways we propose our Selenium: SELENOSEL in pouder from: Selectavet Dr. Otto Fischer GmbH, D-83629 Weyarn-Holzollling

Thank you Potemkin! I have the Selenium suppliment, my problem is "getting it down them" They've not been used to treats, I've bought kilos of carrots, apples, pears, jam, honey, syrup, and tried every treat in the book, I can only get one to eat Jam on toast, and therefore I put the Selenium in the jam, but the others won't even take that! They think I'm trying to poison them!!
I'm now trying to clicker TRAIN them to like treats! Can you believe it!!
If anyone has any other idea of ways I can get them to eat a Selenium suppliment, it will be most appreciated!!!
What treats fo you give yours Potemkin?

there must have some very bad expirience with human beeings in there past. Something like an trauma. We dont nothing about the anamnese of your Camels. Where do you buy them? Tell us more about pls.
We liberate some french Camels near Paris in very bad conditions importing them to some friends of us in Switzerland. Spain. First of all you need patiente. Stress could not bee the solution. Give them confidence. Most of all there need you as a partner. You have to spend hours daily walking with them to the outback. I go out with my 5 Camels daily walking several hours trough the Black forest. Noone is on the /line/halfter. There are obedient only by voice. It is a big pleasure to have with Camels that kind of Partnership. I m very sad to hear from your troubles. It must be horrible. Here an other propostion/solution. Selenium in lickable bucket 20 kg. Go to Google: Vilomin from Vilomix. Pherhaps there will lick that in your absence? My Camels eat nearly all what i give them. From Pinaples to Lemon. But i think first of all your problem it is a question of confidence between humans an Camels. Give them all your love!! This was destroid in the Past. I hope for you that you will find a way. You can send me by personal Email your Phone Number an we can speak together. I have an European Phone-Flatrate ... i havent found it on your Website..
Good look Jörg

Thanks for your reply
I assure you my camels are FAR from stupid! Infact, they're highly intelligent, they now trust me to lean over them when they are cushed, to pull their hair which is rapidly shedding, and love me to pieces, they just won't take treats!
They already respond to a variety of voice commands.
I live in France, but am English, my camels are the love of my life and I treat them with the respect I treat the rest of my family, I love them to pieces.
We are now soaking selenium in with barley, and they seem to be happier to take this, but they are pedantic when it comes to new tastes and smells.
Thank you for trying to reply, I assure you they are well loved and cared for.
Kind regards
