I’m putting up some new video clips. Here’s one I took showing a close-up of Gobi’s foot so that you can see how the toes move and the pad flexes. It was a little hard holding the camera in one hand while trying to work his foot with the other.

Here’s one in slow-motion showing Gobi running and happy feet.

Great vids! Camel feet are really amazing pieces of bio-engineering. And the video of Gobi galumphing around is hilarious. Why was he acting like that? Just happy?

That video clip where Gobi has happy feet. We had just gotten started down the trail, the animals are always happy and playful at this time.

Here we are out on a camping trip doing some exploring. Heading out from this grassy meadow I give them a call and they come running.

Why don't you ever ride Gobi? Is riding camels less comfortable than riding horses?

Ridding a camel is not that much different than ridding a horse. Gobi’s humps are to close together so that I can’t sit between them. It would take a special saddle to ride him and I have not made one.
Sitting in my house I have 6 new saddles from India for dromedaries and 2 new ones from Mongolia for Bactrian camels. I also have about 8 old camel saddles of different types.
If I didn’t have a good horse to ride I would be more likely to make a ridding saddle for Gobi. And when we go on trips it’s more fun taking pictures of him and seeing him and Dandy having fun.

How does riding a bactrian (assuming you can fit between the humps) compare to riding a dromedary?

Wow, Roger! When and where did you get the Mongolian saddles? I'd love to own one of those like you have on your site!! I wouldn't know where to visit online or otherwise to get one!

Ridding a Bactrian is more like ridding a horse in the way that they are more agile and responsive. Last year at the camel training clinic there was a small young Bactrian that a few people took turns ridding around and it reminded me more of a sports car zipping around.
BTW this camel knew how to spit too!

For Mongolian saddles, a friend’s mother who still lives in Mongolian hand makes them and occasionally sends one over here for her son to sale.

OH MY! How much does she charge for one, and how often does she send one over? Do you always know when one is being sent ( do you have the inside track? lol)?
